Acupuncture helps cure hypothalamic ammenoria
In August, 2001, I was referred to acupuncturist and ninth degree black belt, Dr. Young Yee. After living with functional hypothalamic ammenoria - no menstrual period - for nearly two and a half years, I sought the best alternative care I could find. I had heard that Dr.Yee is the best in the Southbay, and I believe he is.
It is a mystery why my periods stopped. Perhaps it was ten years of taking oral contraceptives, or stress, or my unique body composition; whatever the cause, my menstrual cycle had ceased to function, and I felt like the essence of my womanhood had been taken away.
I first turned to Western medicine for oral hormones to "jump-start my cycle"- the Progesterone did nothing but make me irritable and uncomfortable. I then saw an OMO in West LA for 2 years. He prescribed a variety of herbs, protein shakes, acupressure and acupuncture - all for a lot of money and to no avail.
My first visit with Dr. Yee was straightforward. He asked me to stick out my tongue and hold out my wrist. He quickly assessed my health situation with more accuracy, I believe, than my OMD did in 2 years. He explained to me that I would see him three times a week and drink his special tea three times a day. He looked at me with loving confidence and said, "I think I can help you." I believed him the moment I met him.
It took four months. There were days when we both acknowledged that it was taking longer than we thought. But, we both had faith and perseverance. I felt a confidence under Dr. Yee's care that I had not felt with any other practicing doctor. I knew that he genuinely cared about my health and well being. I knew that he was honest with me each and every time I saw him.
